3.〔加在不表示數量觀念的普通名詞、抽象名詞、動名詞之前〕什么也[誰也]沒有。 No man is without his fault. 誰也不會沒有缺點。 No one knows. 誰也不知道。 ★no one 的兩個區(qū)別。 如：No one can do it. 誰也不能做。 No one man can do it. 無論誰，一個人是做不到的。
4.〔加在 be 與述語名詞或其他形容詞之間〕決不是…。 He is no scholar. 他根本不是一個學者〔比較：He is not a scholar. 不是學者(而是…等)〕。 It is no joke. 這決不是開玩笑。 I am no match for him. 我決不是他的對手。 He showed no small skill. 他顯出了相當大的本事。
5.〔在省略句中〕不許，不可，反對，禁止。 No compromise! 反對妥協(xié)! No surrender! 不要投降! No admittance except on business. 非公莫入。 No scribbing on the walls! 墻上請勿涂寫。 No smoking! 請勿吸煙。 No thoroughfare. 禁止通行。 No credit. 不賒賬。 No cards [flowers]. (報喪廣告)謹此報聞，恕不另訃[敬辭贈花]。
6.〔There is no ＋動名詞〕絲毫不可能，簡直沒辦法。
